Entry 12: Philosophy for teaching writing

“Promoting writing in the primary grades” is founded on the belief that fostering a love for writing from an early age cultivates not just literacy skills but also creative thinking and self-expression. This course is the recognition that providing children with diverse and meaningful writing opportunities contributes to their development stage and not only enhances their communication abilities but also nurtures their confidence.

An important aspect of this course that stood out to me, which is also my intended goal; is encouraging educators to create a supportive environment that celebrates individuality, values experimentation, and emphasizes the joy of writing, thereby laying a foundation for a lifelong appreciation of written words. As well as providing as much guidance as possible. (S. Graham n.d) stated "teaching fundamental writing skills, encouraging students to develop essential writing knowledge, and developing a supportive writing environment.

As an educator, and student in teacher training, I believe in the educators shaping a child’s growth in literacy. Instilling a passion for reading involves an interactive reading space where reading aloud can be done, students can choose their own books, pictures readings can be done, etc. Labeling their creations introduces writing and expands vocabulary, integrated seamlessly into our daily activities.

To implement my writing goals, the plan is to analyze the data on the curriculum and encourage daily routine writings, provide a lot of individual practices and incorporate technology for different expressions. however, for these strategies to work I must stay informed by attending workshops, professional developments sessions, explore online forums, write my own reflective journals and even seek ideas from my colleagues or other educators. Therefore, I can stay up to fate on current research and practices when it comes to writing.

Creativity on the other hand, is an importance to writing, because it enables students to infuse their unique perspectives, ideas and styles into their work. Additionally, the word "good" works hand in hand with creativity. It means to communicate, create, clarify and voice aspects alongside grammar and structure according to the students' development stages.

Ultimately, taking part in this course helped me to recognize various ways, activities, and strategies that I can use to achieve my goal of mastering reading and writing with my students. My aim is to foster creative writers who carry a wide imagination that they can bring alive in their pieces in their life-long journey.
